The ICPSR Research Data Ecosystem, Jeannette Jackson, University of Michigan ICPSR
Tue, Nov 1, 1p ET/ 12p CT/ 11a MT/ 10a PT
The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) is an international consortium of more than 750 academic institutions and research organizations. The ICPSR provides leadership and training in data access, curation, and methods of analysis for the social science research community and is building the Research Data Ecosystem (RDE) funded by the National Science Foundation. The RDE will make research data accessible to broaden participation in the frontiers of scientific research. It will accomplish this goal by modernizing the existing software platform so that it supports the entire research lifecycle with an enhanced user experience to increase the ability of researchers to safely and securely access, connect, store, and manipulate data. This presentation will present some of the challenges and experience in implementation of the RDE along with details about implementation, access and usage.

Joint call #2 with the US Research Software Engineers Association (RSE):
Researcher partnerships, and long-term challenges to software sustainability and support.
12-1:30pm ET/ 11a CT / 10a MT / 9a PT / 7a HT (Note the different time and 90-minute duration)
Inspired by conversations that have come up around the founding of the new Virtual Institutes for Scientific Software, these themes nevertheless center broadly on RSEs in the workforce. For both calls, we are planning a brief 10-minute kick-off and Menti survey/ice-breaker questions, followed by breakout sessions for more intimate conversations. Note that we aim to complete a good portion of the call within an hour for anyone who has other commitments. Initial presentations and reports from the meetings will be recorded and shared with our communities.

Sensitive Data in Research Computing – HIPAA support at the University of Utah
Presented by Wayne Bradford & Anita Orendt, University of Utah
The ever-evolving federal regulations on sensitive research data has put research facilitation in the unique position of having to provide cutting edge innovation while meeting compliance requirements from funding agencies. Setting up an enclave or secured space for computation, research surveys and databases is forcing all of us to rethink our campus cyberinfrastructure. This month in the Research-Facing call we will hear from one institution that has a HIPPA protected environment on premise. Please join us for a discussion on planning, policies, security controls, services and architecture used to support research with sensitive data.
