Greetings to the CaRCC People Network and extended community!

Data librarians may become “data science” librarians by necessity, if they are not already serving in this role. In this call, we will provide an overview of the particulars of two libraries’ data science support beyond data science (e.g., across departments, collaborating with IT, etc.) and have an open discussion of how other groups are dealing with similar support needs.

Data management encompasses a broad spectrum of activities, from proposal preparation through data collection, analysis, sharing and archiving. Support services for those activities is not typically provided by a single entity on campus, but rather is often distributed across multiple geographically and organizationally separate groups such as the library, information technology departments, discipline-specific centers and administrative offices. Unfortunately, finding, comparing details, and making decisions about what services are appropriate for a given situation can be frustratingly time consuming and difficult. This presentation will demonstrate our data storage finder, and describe the process of building the tool, including pitching the idea and procuring financial support, working with developers to design, build and test the tool, and interacting with service providers to populate content.
JANUARY 16 – TOPIC TBA
All calls will take place in a Zoom room (coordinates communicated via email).
Please sign up for the People Network lists (below) to receive emails with the coordinates, or send an email to help@carcc.org if you can’t find them.
There is no need to subscribe to a particular track to participate in calls. However, additional details for track members, including notes documents and any pre-call activities, will be distributed ahead of the call via the email lists and other communication channels within each track.
The CaRCC (Campus Research Computing Consortium) People Network, aims “to foster, build and grow an inclusive community (termed the “People Network”) for campus CI, research computing and data professionals.” If you have received this email NOT via CaRCC’s People Network email list, and you would like to join the People Network, which includes Data-facing, Researcher-facing, Systems-facing, and Emerging Centers tracks, please fill in the sign-up form at http://bit.ly/join_carcc_people_network.
